One of the most sought-after exotics in Texas — and some of the best eating you’ll find anywhere.

Axis deer are arguably the most popular exotic game animal in the state, and for good reason. They’re beautiful, bucks carry impressive antlers, and the meat is widely considered the best-tasting venison available. Our ranch carries a strong population of axis, including some exceptional bucks.

Why Hunt Axis at Herd Hunting?

Axis prefer thick, dark timber areas to rest and move cautiously as a group, browsing and grazing. The ranch maintains several secluded, unpressured areas to provide the cover and safety our herds seek, but has plenty of open canopy and meadow environments that attract them to feed. Axis are among the more difficult species to hunt, as they are less inclined to come to feeders and are among the wariest of animals. A mature Axis buck is truly a trophy hard-earned.
