Hunt the Texas Hill Country
Live water, dramatic scenery, open sky, and some of the finest game in the Lone Star State.
Your Hunt, Your Way
Every hunt is built around your preferences. Whether that’s a trophy axis buck, a freezer full of oryx, or your child’s first whitetail — we’ll put together a custom experience for you.
A standard visit is three days of hunting with lodging, meals, and field dressing included. You bring yourself and your rifle. We handle the rest.
From the Field to Your Table
A core tenant of the ranch is that all animals are respected and no meat is waste. Everything we hunt is excellent tablefare. Whitetail is long recognized for lean, natural meat, while Axis has recently gained a following for its lack of “gaminess” and incredible tenderness. Oryx, Sika, and Fallow are much less discussed, but every bit as deserving.
Our ranch takes pride in the quality and condition of the animals that inhabit the property. We manage the land and populations to ensure an abundance of natural browse, grass, and forbs for their diets, but also provide year-round, free-choice protein to supplement. Corn is used exclusively as an attractant if necessary.
Key to preserving the quality of protein is proper care after harvest. We will field dress animals promptly and have a walk-in cooler on site for quick cold-storage thereafter. We’ll also cape and quarter your harvest if you choose, and we can connect you with a local butcher for further processing if desired.
More and more hunters, and heretofore non-hunters, are coming to us because they want to manage their own protein from start to finish. We’re happy to be part of that.
Why Herd Hunting?
Diverse Game
Whitetail, Axis, Oryx, Wildebeest, and more. Native and exotic species managed year-round with supplemental protein and careful stewardship.
Revitalizing Setting
Limestone hills, fertile floodplains, gin-clear, spring-fed creeks, and towering live oaks and pecans comprise textbook hill country terrain of the ranch. No bustling highways, no city lights. Just clean air and expansive, relaxing scenery.
Personal Experience
We host small groups and never rush a hunt. Your guide knows the ranch and the animals, and is here to make sure you enjoy every hour on the property.
Comfortable Accommodations
The lodge is designed to host small groups and is meticulously maintained to provide a clean, functional space to eat, sleep and relax during downtime. High-speed internet ensures you stay as connected to the outside world as you want to be, and the game room offers plenty of space for camaraderie along with a big-screen TV and pool table.
Land That Takes Your Breath Away
Herd Ranch is a private hunting ranch in the heart of the Texas Hill Country — nearly a thousand acres of creek bottoms, limestone hills, and old-growth oaks.
The ranch borders over a mile and a half of Pulliam Creek, which feeds into the Nueces River. The water is spring-fed and pristine, filtered through the karst limestone of the Balcones Escarpment. Above the creek bottoms, the terrain opens into rolling hills where you can see 40–50 miles in every direction. Massive oaks and pecans line the draws. The sunrises and sunsets alone are worth the drive.
We just happen to think hunting is the best way to experience it.
The Ranch is Ready & Waiting
We’re about 2-and-a-half hours west of San Antonio, tucked into the Hill Country between Uvalde and Rocksprings. Fly into San Antonio, rent a truck, and you’ll be here by the afternoon.
